Kaizer Chiefs give update on coaching job amid replacing sacked Middendorp

Kaizer Chiefs have given update on the way forward following the announcement of coach Ernst Middendorp’s sacking on Wednesday.

Middendorp’s departure came as no surprise after Amakhosi suffered heartbreak for surrendering the Absa Premiership title to Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the season.

Though the 2019/20 has just ended, the PSL has set its sights on kicking off the 2020/21 campaign next month, pending approval from government over the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Chiefs have indicated that the players will now be afforded a break following the gruelling schedule of the bio-bubble, and will return “before the end of September” to begin preparations for the new season, which is when a new coach will also be announced.

“We will announce the new coach before the team returns for pre-season training,” Motaung said in a statement on the club’s website.

The ‘Khosi faithful’s calls have been heard and Motaung further assured that they are “a listening organisation”, but also called for solidarity during these trying times.

“We pride ourselves on having built a strong legacy and a culture based on winning. We are aware that the supporters are hurting, and the outcry is too loud to ignore,” Motaung added.

“It is important for our loyal supporters to know that we feel their pain. We are a listening organisation and we respect their right to express their dissatisfaction with the team’s overall performance.

“While we are wounded, we need to remember that the key principle of loyalty is showing unity and standing together in solidarity when the going gets tough.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs could walk into the transfer market for reinforcements if their transfer ban is lifted.

The PSL side were handed a two transfer window ban from FIFA for signing of ‘Dax‘ but have since appealed to the Court of Arbitrary for Sports to free them in order to bring new addition.

The South African side are waiting for the hearing of CAS the determine their stance in the transfer market.
