Kenya fought back at home against 10-men Comoros to earn third straight draw in AFCON qualifiers

Kenya welcomed Coromos to the Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday evening for 2022 AFCON qualifier clash but needed a second have leveler to settle for a draw.

And their latest results set them on a third straight draw in the Afcon qualifiers and may have to work beyond standard to boost the chances of qualifying to the next African Cup of Nations.

Cameroon will host the Afcon tournament and now Kenya’s chances of appearing in Africa’s national elite competition has become slim after a fiercely contest by group leaders Comoros in Nairobi.

The Harambee Stars had 2 points from their previous two games before clash against Comoros with Kenya drawing 1-1 against Egypt and Togo in first and second games respectively.

Before today’s defeat, Kenya was placed second in Group G though same points with third placed Egypt who host Togo in the other fixture on Friday evening at the Cairo International Stadium.

While Kenya boss Jacob Mulee knew today’s clash would be a difficult hurdle against unbeaten Comoros, he gave returning Arnold Origi start with former Tottenham man Victor Wanyama paired along Johanna Omollo and Eric Johanna Omondi in what looked a solid midfielder for the Harambee Stars.

But they were hold tight despite numerical advantage in the first half after Youssouf M’changama was booked for a second time as Comoros came up 1-0 in the first 45’ minutes when Said Bakari struck on the 26’ minute.

Lawrence Juma drew Kenya on level in second half to earn the home side a third consecutive draw in the 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Kenya will travel to Coromos for the second leg on Sunday as quest for first win in qualifiers would be prioritized.
