Prosper Narteh Ogum: Asante Kotoko boss ready for Black Stars managerial role after former GFA President comments

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has failed to rule out taking over the Black Stars coaching job when the opportunity comes and believe he is ever ready to handle Ghana’s senior national team.

The Ghana Football Association just submitted a list of a new technical team for the national team to the Sports Ministry with official confirmation set to be made by the close of the week.

The GFA’s move comes in midst of Black Stars struggles seeing Milovan Rajevac fired due to poor Afcon campaign. Though Ghana has not yet appointed a permanent replacement, Prosper Narteh Ogum now stands high chances of landing the job after Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers clash with Nigeria next month.

Ogum’s chances for the Black Stars has been boosted after former GFA President and Hearts of Oak Board Board member, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe tipping the University of Cape Coast lecturer as the perfect permanent candidate for the vacant Black Stars managerial role.

Speaking in a post-match conference after his side’s win against Accra Lions, Kotoko boss Prosper Narteh refused to rule himself out for the huge position and has stated he will be ever ready to lead the four time African champions if he is handed that huge opportunity.

“I think probably he sat from afar, he’s seen what I’m doing and per his astuteness we know him to be following football for decades and so many years as season football administrator so per his experience and what he’s seen about me and being there as a former FA president and the Black Stars and knowing the dynamics in there. Probably that is making him take that informed decision about me.”

“I mean is a national call and when the day comes and I’m available I think once is national duty, we will all rise up to the call.” He landed

Asante Kotoko after 16 matches are currently leading the Ghana Premier League table with 36 points, after that emphatic 3-1 victory over Accra Lions over the weekend.

They will wrap up the first phase of the season when they face giants and sworn rivals Hearts of Oak this Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asante Kotoko lead the Ghana Premier League table with six more points above second place Bechem United.

Narteh joined Asante Kotoko at the beginning of this season from West African Football Academy. After signing more than 10 players, the Ghana International has hit the ground running losing only 2 games and 3 draws into the season against King Faisal and Elmina Sharks for the defeats.

Ogum has guided Kotoko to play some decent football so far before earning huge admiration from football experts in Ghana including his recent link with the Black Stars coaching job.

The Black Stars managerial role has been linked with other several of former Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton, Otto Addo, Akwesi Appiah and Claude Le Roy.

While the GFA looks forward to make permanent appointment for the Black Stars job, they have appointed Borussia Dortmund bound Otto Addo on the interim basis ahead of FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

Chris Hughton was named technical advisor of the Black Stars in the recent appointments. It’s understood that massive changes at the Black Stars technical area would be made after the Nigeria World Cup playoff game.

Chris Hughton could be appointed as the permanent Black Stars coach while Prosper Narteh Ogum also stand equal chance, according reports.

As preparations for Ghana’s World Cup playoff is underway, technical advisor Chris Hughton has meet with interim Otoo Addo and George Boateng who currently acts as assistant for the Black Stars.
