Mohammed Alhassan: Former Hearts of Oak defender begins life at Asante Kotoko

Former Hearts of Oak center-back Mohammed Alhassan has began life at Asante Kotoko since completing his move to the defending champions in the January transfer window.

After a huge tussle with officials, Mo Alhassan parted company with Hearts of Oak sealing a shock transfer to rivals Asante Kotoko in the January transfer period.

Although Mo Alhassan was on the list of the likes of Medeama Sporting Club and Aduana Stars, Asante Kotoko counter reacted for the defender’s signature sinking the two powerful Ghana Premier League sides in race for Alhassan.

Since completing his move to the Reds- a move backed by a couple of former Hearts of Oak players- Mohammed Alhassan began training with his new teammates on Tuesday at Adako Jachie Training Complex in Kumasi.

The 30-year old was spotted wearing all-red training jersey signaling his readiness to make his debut for Asante Kotoko. Kotoko have had a fluctuated campaign in the first round of the Ghana Premier League sitting 3rd place on the log after the first half of the season break.

The Reds must bounce back stronger to fight for a place in African football next season which means they have to only win the Ghana Premier League or the FA Cup. Mohammed Alhassan is tipped to help Asante Kotoko to achieve this feat where the defender is expected to walk into the central defense comprising of Sherif Mohammed, Yusif Mubarik, Andrews Appau and Maxwell Agyemang.

Alhassan’s starter at Hearts and his move to Kotoko has sparked fury with a couple of Hearts of Oak former players backing the player about his decision to join Seydou Zerbo’s side.

Former Black Stars and Hearts legend Dan Quaye has lambasted the management of Hearts of Oak saying, “What I don’t understand is that, why would Hearts let a good player like Mohammed Alhassan go for a player in the second or first division player who you would now need to mature? Mohammed Alhassan is an experienced player and sometimes the young ones need to learn from such players,”

“Similarly, look at the way they treated Manaf at RTU, it’s just sad with the way they let go of certain key players” he added.

“Alhassan’s move to is a good one for the player himself because he is not wanted by Hearts of Oak and also with the kind of experience he has, I’m convinced he can help Kotoko in their title contention”.

Mohammed Alhassan helped Hearts to win two FA Cup titles and Ghana Premier League trophy. He is he third January signing at Asante Kotoko after former Medeama SC midfielder Rashid Nortey and Brazilain forward Matheus Medeiros de Souza.
