Hearts of Oak receive donation from Accra Mayor ahead of Real Bamako second leg game

Hearts of Oak have received a donation from Accra Mayor ahead of CAF Confederation Cup second leg clash against AS Real Bamako in Ghana’s capital.

The Major, who appears the first female in to assume the position in Accra, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey has donated 20 cartons of Red Bull energy drink and an undisclosed amount of money to Accra Hearts of Oak.

The former Ghana Premier League champions were thrashed 3-0 in the first leg in Bamako and have since being on preparations for the second leg in Ghana.

In one of the club’s training sessions, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey made the presentation.

The Mayor in an interaction with the players encouraged the players as well as the technical bench to do everything possible to throb their arch-rivals come Sunday.

“I appreciate the work you do and I am here to encourage you to do more because you never say die until the bones are rotten, so we are here to support you to win your next game, which is why we have brought these drinks and cash to motivate you,” she said.

Captain of the team, Abdul Fatawu Mohammed who received the donation on behalf of his colleagues expressed appreciation to the Accra Mayor for the gesture and promised the team would do its best to win in the return leg clash to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Present at the event was Vincent Adotei-Sowah, a Board member of Hearts of Oak, some officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as well as technical members of the team.

Hearts are capable of overturning the score line but it may not come easy. Last season they exited the competition at the playoff stage following 4-2 aggregate defeat to Algerian side JS Saoura in the Confederation Cup. Before that stage, they eliminated Guinean outfit Club Industriel Kamsar in the Champions League before been crashed out by Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club in the second round.

“I will say, looking at how training is going, we are well prepared and focused towards the match we will be playing on Sunday.

“When we came back, we sat down and talked to ourselves that, going into that match, we need to prepare more than hundred percent,” Mohammed Alhassan told Radio Gold.

He noted that his mates are very much prepared to face Real Bamako and will give off a tough fight to win and progress.

“We are willing to work hard so that we will be able to qualify, and looking at what is going on in training, we are very much prepared.

“Everyone is at his peak; we are all fighting, it’s not going to be an easy task, but with determination, hard work, we are going to put in every effort to qualify for our darling club.” Mohammed Alhassan said.
