Suspensions from Covid-19 continue in Africa as Al Ahly break camping for six days but issues safety measure amid battling coronavirus outbreak

Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly have enjoyed a brighter campaign to the star of the Egyptian Premier League this season. Winning first 16 games and drew their latest one in a total of 17 league games, which prevented them from repeating their best winning streak record in the history of the league, winning 17 consecutive league games in the 2004-2005 season.

Their Premier League title ambition this season has now been affected by the coronavirus outbreak leading to the suspension of the Egyptian professional league.

At club level, Ahly’s board of directors have decided seek the safety of its officials and players from the famous and scary-awakening covid-19.

The board have now decided to reduce the number of working hours in their three headquarters in Al Jazeera, Nasr City and Sheikh Zayed by closing its doors at exactly eight in the evening.

It is understood that the decision came in light of the spread of the Coronavirus and to preserve the safety of everyone inside the club, according to Mohamed Morgan, CEO of Al Ahly.

The second measure focuses on breaking camp to allow the first team to take a six-day break to avoid contraction and spread of covid-19.

The technical team lead by Rene Weiler gave three broad health guidelines before the players left camp for their respective destinations.

  • Adhere to preventive measures to avoid infection with the Coronavirus
  • Adherence to the diet to avoid weight gain at rest
  • Not to travel and avoid mixing.

Ahly lead the Egyptian Premier League table with 49 points from a complete expected of 52 after 17 games with at least a game in hand, and are expected to resume training after the six days break.
