Mohamed Zrida scores as Raja Casablanca beat ES Setif to make it two wins in a row
Raja Casablanca shock ES Setif with a 1-0 away victory in the Caf Champions League on Friday evening. Thanks to Mohamed Zrida who netted the only goal of the game. The Moroccan International rose to the occasion to separate the two sides as Raja Casablanca make it two wins in two games of Group B.
ES Setif welcomed the Moroccan side to the Stade du 5 Juillet for second game of the African Champions League group stages as the hosts eyed back-to-back victory but failed to pick all three points against Marc Wilmots’ men.
ES Setif had beaten Horoya Athletic in first game of the Caf Champions League group stages. While that victory came away from home, the Algerian side were hoping to make it two out of two in their first home game and that was against former champions of the Caf Champions League Raja Casablanca.
However, they were beaten 1-0 by a much stronger opponents Raja who defeated debutants AmaZulu in Morocco last weekend.
Wilmots named a strong XI with Mohame Nahiri and Omar Arjoune replacing Abdeljalil Jbira and Mohamed Al Makahasi respectively in the two changes made from game against AmaZulu.
The home side immediately announced their presence but were caught struggling to break down Raja defense. They continued to dominate the game but it was Raja Casablanca who got the most important thing done after Zrida scoring on the 71′ minute.
ES Setif tried to pull the level but their series of attacks were dealt by Raja who went back to Morocco with all three points. The scorer in game against AmaZulu, Mohsine Moutaouali, enjoyed a good game against ES Setif but ended the tie entering the referees’ book after being shown the yellow card in the first half.
Raja now lead Group B with 6 points after two games and will host Horoya Athletic in the next game at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. AmaZulu who beat Horoya in the other fixture in South Africa sit second place while ES Setif follow.
