Messi stoppage time penalty salvage Argentina from Uruguay defeat in Tel Aviv

Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez score two goals for Uruguay before Aguero’s strike got Argentina but in the game, Messi converted a last minute penalty to secure a point for Scaloni’s men in Tel Aviv.

Argentina were excellent in the first 30 minutes of the game as they comfortably enjoyed possession but Uruguay took a surprising lead through Edinson Cavani, tapping home Suarez’s sized pass across goal area.

Paulo Dybala got the equalizer before the end of the first half but his strike never stood as the referee adjudged that the ball hit Juve’s man hand before slotting in for the equalizer.

On the 63rd minute, Sergio Aguero rose to head home Messi’s free kick from the left edge of Uruguay box to get Argentina the leveler.

Luis Suarez restored Uruguay’s lead five minutes later, smashing in a spectacular free kick from outside the box. Argentina reacted quickly, working the ball nicely at the back of Uruguay box through Leandro Paredes, Dybala and Messi but the final product by Aguero was shot off the cross bar.

Argentina took total control of the game, looking for the opportunity to struck but Uruguay were determined at their back to deny Scaloni’s side any goal as at the 85 minute.

Scaloni’s side continued to press in the remaining 5 minutes, but Uruguay keeper Campana produced a world class save to deny Argentina on the 90’ minute as Sergio Aguero went high in the air to head home a cross form Nicolas Tagliafico.

Finally, Messi stepped up to convert a penalty in additional time (90+2) to secure a point for Argentina in Tel Aviv. Scaloni’s side have prevented a defeat against their South America rivalries Brazil and Uruguay in Argentina’s last two games.
