Ghanaian forward Eugene Ansah has joined MLS side FC Dallas on year deal.

American Major League Soccer (MLS) side, FC Dallas have signed Ghanaian attacker Eugene Ansah. The forward has been backed to score more goals next season.

The club in an official communique announced that the player has been signed for a one-and-a-half-year.

“FC Dallas has signed winger Eugene Ansah to a one-and-a-half-year contract with a club option for the 2025 season. Ansah will occupy an international roster spot pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team policy, additional terms of the deal will not be disclosed,” FC Dallas announced on Monday, June 19.

The club continued, “Ansah, 28, joins FC Dallas after spending five seasons in the Israeli Premier League, most recently playing for Hapoel Be’er Sheva. During his time with Be’er Sheva, Ansah registered 80 appearances and recorded 12 goals and 10 assists in 4,726 minutes played. He also appeared in six group stage matches of the 2022-23 Europa Conference League for the Israeli side.”

Born in Accra, Eugene Ansah for most parts of his career played for clubs in Israel.

He started his professional career in Belgium where he played for Lokeren.

Meanwhile, head coach of FC Dallas, Nico Estévez has expressed his delight at the signing of Ghanaian forward Eugene Ansah.

According to the tactician, he is expecting the new signing to score more goals and create a lot of chances for the team in games.

“Eugene (Ansah) is a quick and agile player who will help create chances for us and score goals as well.

“We’ve been following him for over a year, and we like that he can play as a winger and as a No. nine. I can’t wait for him to join in with the squad, we sent him a training and fitness plan so by the time he arrives he will be ready to go,” FC Dallas head coach Nico Estévez said.

FC Dallas have talked about the things Ansah is expectyed to give to their attacking line.

“One of the things we noticed during the year we’ve been following Ansah is that he’s played as a #9 and as a winger,” said FCD head coach Nico Estévez. “They’re two positions he knows well. As a #9, he can stretch the field very well and has good hold up play and he’s good at getting in the box for crosses.

“As a winger, he has that speed to stretch the opponent’s backline and attack the box, he’s great at that. And he likes to shoot from distance which will help us.”

Ansah’s arrival could breathe new life into an Dallas attack that has been hampered by injury issues over the first half of 2023. The Israel Premier League only ended last month so Ansah should be close to match fit. The hope is that once the 28-year-old will be able to contribute soon after arriving in Dallas.

After his adaptation, Ansah’s versatility should allow him to fill in on either wing, as well as up top. Paul Arriola’s extended injury absence has forced FCD to rely heavily on Jáder Obrian and Alan Velasco on the flanks, with the pair needing to play 90 minutes nearly every game. Ansah’s arrival should lessen the burden on them and gives Estévez more flexibility with his lineup choices.

“Hopefully, we can have him with us soon pending his Visa documents,” Estévez explained. “He just finished the league season with his team and we’ve sent him an exercise program to keep him fit and once he comes hopefully he’ll be in rhythm quickly.”
