Naspa Stars 2-2 Gor Mahia: Emmanuel Mayuka heroics dents Mahia qualification hopes as Naspa burst into Caf Confederation Cup group stages

Emmanuel Mayuka rise to the occasion to send Naspa to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup first time in their history.

Mayuka’s stoppage time penalty end it 2-2 and that was the major headlines at the National Heros Stadium in Lusaka. Mayuka’s penalty was a remembrance of his semifinals last penalty kick against Ghana in 2012 Afcon.

The Zambian International sent Gor Mahia goalkeeper they wrong way as Naspa Stars jump into historic achievement in continental football; first group stage in maiden campaign in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Gor Mahia needed to overturn their 1-0 loss from the first leg in Kenya to reach money zone of the competition. The Kenya side started the game strongly and took the lead 16’ minutes after a nicely built movement from the left flank saw Ouma struck a stunning half volley from outside the box.

Naspa responded quickly with the equalizer a minute later when a cross from the right flank was calmly connected by Banda.

With a more determined Gor Mahia side, the Zambian side were presented with a difficult task on Saturday afternoon. Having said that, the Kenyan outfit restored their lead 18’ minute into the game after a wonderful low shot from Mehiso outside the box went straight into the bottom left corner.

Gor Mahia were delight to watch though they had a bit of luck on their side. Mahia seem to be ending the game with a 2-1 scor line which they would have qualified 2-2 aggregate but on away goal rule.

However, a one-two play from Naspa saw them end a stoppage time penalty at the left edge with former Afcon winner Emmanuel Mayuka stepping in to convert the kick as the game end 2-2 in Lusaka.

Today’s win hand Naspa qualification to the group stages of the Confederation Cup first time in their history as Gor Mahia exit continental football.
