Hearts of Oak close in on move for Gladson Awako as Great Olympics captain agrees personal terms
Gladson Awako has reportedly agreed personal terms with Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak as deal nears completion.
Hearts of Oak have vowed to make meaningful impact in next term’s Caf Champions League and that has put the Ghanaian side within the frame to find suitable reinforcements to reach their ambitions.
While they already have a good team to compete in the continental competition they last won 21 year ago, they have already entered into the transfer market to capture the best players to build a very formidable side.
They have become too a serious a side since the end of the league season that they have even penciled down rivals’ Asante Kotoko stars.

Early this week, it surfaced in the Ghanaian media that Hearts of Oak are monitoring situations of play-maker Fabio Gama who hold much importance in the Kotoko playing body, Abdul Ganiyu who is a Black Stars material and former Ghana shot-stopper Felix Anann who has fallen completely behind Razak Abelora and Kwame Baah in the pegging order.
Hearts’ chances of landing any of these players would be extremely difficult due to the history of transfer and rivalry between the two Ghanaian giants. It’s understood that Asante Kotoko have warned their players of rumours linking them to Hearts of Oak but that hasn’t discourage the newly crowned Ghana Premier League champions from going ahead with their transfer plans.

They have been linked with a move for Great Olympics star Gladson Awako since beginning of this season but Olympics were unready to cash in on their captain having tell reporters March of their intent to prevents any move.
“Awako is not leaving the club in the middle of the season and that I can assure you,” a Great Olympics source said via Graphic Online.
“Awako will stay with Olympics till the end of the campaign and that I can assure you.
“He has assured the club and I believe he will only consider his options at the end of the season when he has helped the club achieve its target of finishing in the top four.”
Knowing they were not the only side interest in Awako where Asante Kotoko had also pencil him down, Hearts of Oak cooled down interest in the former TP Mazembe midfielder as a strategy to cool down Kotoko’s high attention on a deal too Futball Surgery understands.
Having beating Asante Kotoko to this season’s Ghana Premier League title, they have rekindled interest in Awako and seem to beating their rivals once again in the transfer market in Great Olympics star Gladson Awako.
The Olympics forward has been arguably one of the best players in the ended Ghana Premier League though his mixed performance put him behind the likes of Wafa star Augustine Boakye, Hearts’ play-maker Salifu Ibrahim and Kotoko Fabio Gama.
Awako was exceptional in the first round emerging as best player after the end of the half but displayed a shallow form in the other half to lower expectations on the Ghanaian International. That doesn’t bother Hearts of Oak as they already know his potential and have being in contacts with Awako for days now.
Contacts have been yielding positive results for both Awako and Hearts since commencement as talks have reached advanced stage according to a report in GhanaSoccerNet via GhanaWeb.
Great Olympics are reportedly reluctant to do business with their regional rivals for Awako who has few months left on his current contract. Although Olympics have opened talks to extent Awako’s contract but they are yet to reach any agreement.
In that way, Olympics are being forced to sell Awako in order to avoid losing the midfielder for free before start of next season. The report suggests that the 30-year old has accepted to join Hearts of Oak and has agreed personal terms with the Phobians.
Hearts have met the player’s demand which remains behind the scene.
Awako joined Great Olympics on a free transfer in November 2019 after departing ways with Phoenix Rising 8 months earlier. He has netted 9 goals in 41 league appearances since joining the Accra side three years ago.
Following his form this season, he received a call up and capped in Ghana’s last Afcon Qualifier against Sao Tome & Principe in March something he never earned during his prime days at TP Mazembe.
At Mazembe, he helped the Dr Congo side lift the Caf Champions League in 2015 but later completed a move to Phoenix Rising where he scored only two goals in 46 league games. He scored 13 goals/90 league games over his 5 year period of stay in Lubumbashi.
Should Hearts of Oak announced a deal for Awako, the Olympics skipper could be deployed in play-making and left attacking roles.
