Asante Kotoko open official negotiations with Medeama over Justice Blay transfer but face competition from the PSL clubs

Ghana Premier League outfits Kotoko have officially open negotiations with Medeama Sporting Club over the permanent transfer of Justice Blay according to reports in Ghana.

Blay joined Kotoko on loan in the now-scrapped season and emerged fans’ favourite with a string of impressive displays.

The midfielder has returned to his parent club Medeama following the cancellation of the 2019/2020 Premier League season but Kotoko retain an interest in the player, especially now that the Ghana Premier League side enter into CAF Inter Club competitions next season.

The spokesperson for Medeama has told Nhyira FM that they are in negotiations with Kotoko over Blay’s transfer but Premier Soccer League clubs could reportedly provide a stiffer competition for the West Africans.

Patrick Akoto states that Medeama will prioritize the interest of the player and with Blay expressing interest in joining Kotoko but has not ruled out a move to abroad either whiles Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns and Maritzburg United are all interested in Blay.

“We are clear in our mind that the interest of the player is key in this and as a club, we see the player’s choice as paramount.

“Whatever the outcome of the talks [with Kotoko], we know it will be beneficial to the player (Blay) and the two clubs involved,” Akoto informed Nhyira FM.

“It is true we have had official contact from Asante Kotoko on Justice Blay. Nana Yaw Amponsah the new CEO has been in constant relations with us but there are other clubs also involved in negotiations”.

“We have been on the table since the loan deal expired and it was a letter to request for discussions to finalise a permanent deal for the player but the coronavirus pandemic halted it for a while.

“These are negotiations and if everything is finalized all supporters of Medeama and Asante Kotoko will be informed,” Akoto added.

Following the termination of the season, Kotoko have been selected by the Ghana Football Association in accordance with CAF and FIFA regulations to represent Ghana in the African Champions League Maxwell Konadu wants to bolster his squad ahead of the competition.

Kotoko’s CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah says they are looking to sign a minimum of seven players for the continental assignment with which Blay is part.

However, South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns same as Kaizer Chiefs who are likely to take a CAF Champions League slot have eyed the 25-year old defensive midfielder.

Tunisian heavyweights Esperance de Tunis was also interested in signing Blay as replacement for Kwame Bonsu when they sell the Ghana International at the end of this season.

Blay, if not the best, is one of three best players in the ended 2019-2020 Ghana Premier League season, and was tipped as the best midfielder in the league by SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah.

“Adebayor has been brilliant but Justice Blay of Kotoko has been my player of the season so far. He’s absolutely brilliant,” Kwabena Yeboah told Joy Sports.

“When the fans started singing his praise I did not understand until I started taking a very close look at him.”

“The Kotoko’s game against Hearts of Oak, he was absolutely brilliantly.”
