Milovan Rajevac names Ghana 30-man provisional squad for Afcon Cameroon 2021

The head coach of Ghana’s male senior national team, Milovan Rajevac has named a 30-man provisional squad for the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Nicknamed the Black Stars, the West African outfit is one of 32 national teams that will be represented at the tournament scheduled to commence in Cameroon next month.

Ahead of the continental showpiece, Ghana is set to open camp in Doha, Qatar, to prepare for the challenge that lies ahead.

Today, head coach Milovan Rajevac has at a press conference at the secretariat of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced his 30-man provisional squad for the 2021 AFCON.

Goalkeeper Richard misses the squad as well as new number one Joseph Wollacott and home-based shot-stopper Richard Attah.

Mohammed Kudus is named in the squad although he has not played active football for at least in the past month.

Jordan Ayew is the main striker in the squad but faces competition from Benjamin Tetteh.

Meanwhile, talented teenagers Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Kamaldeen Sulemana are all named in the Ghana squad for the 2021 AFCON squad as well.

Meanwhile, the Ghana boss has dispelled claims that his squad selection was influenced by external forces.

Defending his call-ups to journalists at a press conference, he said he personally named the squad together with his assistants.

“Nobody interfered with my selection. This is a squad that I decided with my assistants,” Rajevac said.

The Black Stars will camp in Doha Qatar, before travelling to Cameroon on January 7, 2022 for the AFCON tournament.

Ghana will open the tournament against Morocco on January 10, and will face Comoros and Gabon in their other Group C games.
