Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns set to open transfer war for Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay

South African duo Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly interest in signing Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay, and knee entering into transfer war for Blay’s signature.

Blay has been one of the best midfielders in the Ghana Premier League over past three seasons but his recent move from Medeama SC to Asante Kotoko has earn the defensive midfielder a huge national and continental recognition.

The central midfielder is now in a lockup at Kotoko- only on a season long loan deal- having set his heart on sealing a permanent deal to the Ghana Premier League champions.

Negotiations for Kotoko to sign the combative midfielder permanently from parent club Medeama has stalled due to clubs’ differences to finally agree on a fee, and the coronavirus pandemic has also complicated things

Downs and Chiefs are planning to lure the midfielder in this uncertain period surrounding football.

It is understood that Ernst Middendorp and Pitso Mosimane are planning to sign a defensive midfielder as they both set the sight on continental glories next season, and have identified Blay as one of the best on the continent despite Middendorp signing Teddy Akumu from Zesco United in the January transfer window for his defensive midfielder department.

The midfield is one of the areas the German trainer has set careful eyes on strengthening as the Glamour Boys prepare to lift their first CAF Champions League title next season.

Defensive midfielder Willard Katsande is aged 34-years while his current contract expires at the end of next season, but it looks unclear whether he will earn a new deal due to his age, and a transfer for the Ghanaian midfielder will be crucial to complete sooner than later especially now that rivals Downs also knee signing Blay.

Chiefs could use Middendorf’s friendly relationship with Ghana football to beat their competitors Mamelodi Sundowns to the signing of the Asante Kotoko midfielder.

However, that wouldn’t come so easy for Chiefs as Mamelodi Sundowns are readying to contact Blay’s parent club Medeama SC for negotiations and the  Brazilians could be asked to pay around $50, 000 for the asset’s signature.

Blay, 28, has made the defensive midfield position in Black Stars B his own playing all games in Ghana’s second place in recent tournament in 2019 WAFU competition in Senegal.

He has been tag as the perfect fit Black Stars defensive problems and could soon earn a senior nationsl team call up.
