Anderlecht slap €30million on Belgian born Ghanaian International Jeremy Doku as Liverpool renew interest in forward

Anderlecht have reportedly slap €30million price tag on Belgian-born Ghanaian International Jeremy Doku while Liverpool have renew interest in landing the forward this summer according to latest report.

The 18-year old has been with Anderlecht since 2012 but has risen to prominence at Lotto Park from last season and after scoring 4 goals in 24 games across all competitions in the just ended term and 2 goals in 6 games this season so far, interest in the Belgian forward continues to increase among top European clubs.

English Premier League clubs are known to planning a summer move for Doku with Liverpool having monitored the 18-year old’s situation at Anderlecht since 2018.

Having capped at all youth levels for Belgium, Doku made his first appearance for the Belgian national team on 5 September 2020 against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.

Three days later, he scored his first goal for the Belgian national team in a 5–1 win against Iceland. And his performance in Belgian’s recent game again has increased Liverpool’s interest and the Reds are bound to make official offer to Anderlecht claimed by Dutch outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

Initially it was understood the Belgian outfits will resist letting their forward leave this summer but according to the reports by the Dutch outlet, Anderlecht have slapped €30million price tag on the Belgian International.

At the game of 16, Doku made his Anderlecht debut in November 2018 and has since become a first-team regular for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Liverpool consider the Belgian forward to be Sadio Mane’s replacement should the Senegalese International who has been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid succeed in completing a transfer to the Laliga outfit.

Doku’s father, David, has revealed that the Reds’ interest in his son dates back to when the striker was just 16-years old and could have signed for Liverpool at the tender age.

“At the age of sixteen Jeremy could sign a pro contract with Anderlecht, but even then Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Ajax and PSV were interested.

“My preference was Liverpool. How we were received there, damn.

“The trainer [Jurgen] Klopp explained how he saw a potential successor to Sadio Mane in Jeremy. Steven Gerrard showed us videos with tactical analysis.

“At the training complex [Simon] Mignolet, Mane and [Georginio] Wijnaldum came to talk to us. Yet Jeremy was distracted by the talk. Liverpool panicked.”

Ghana had hopes very high of landing Doku into the Black Stars but his 88th-minute substitute appearance in the European Nations League clash with Belgium against Denmark has rendered the teenager cap-tied, thereby becoming attached to Roberto Martinez’s side rather than Black Stars.

Currently, he is not eligible to represent Ghana unless Fifa changes their rules in future.

The game ended 2-0 in favour of the 2018 World Cup bronze-medallists, who had Jason Denayer and Dries Mertens to thank for scoring to seal three points in their group opener.
