Micho faces Zamalek sack ahead of Champions League clash against TP Mazembe

Zamalek could axe their boss Micho Sredojević when he succumbs to a defeat at Lubumbashi against TP Mazembe in the opening of the CAF Champions League group stage, according to Mahmoud Dia of Goal Arabia.

Zamalek boss Micho has been under intensive pressure following Zamalek’s 2-1 defeat to bottomers ENPPI in the Egyptian League yesterday. ENPPI had never won any league game this season before facing Zamalek but managed to beat the power house after Mohamed Sherif 90+1 strike sink Micho’s side at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

After the painful defeat to ENPPI, Zamalek supporters have called for the sack of the Serbian, where the support base of the Egyptians view Micho as tactically blind. On Tuesday, there was a popular hashtag “Micho Must Walk”, translated from Arabic, trending on Twitter, which would have forced Zamalek to part ways with their coach.

But it is believed that Micho despite facing social media abuse from Zamalek supporters still have the support of club president Mortada Mansour as it has been claimed by Mahmoud Dia.

The “Goal” representative in Arabia in an interview with “KickOff.com” said, “I don’t think he will be sacked because Mansour said after the game that it was the referees’ fault about the defeat and called out Tarek Mohamed and Abdallah Gomaa for not wanting to train for the team.”

Mansour’s support for Micho is only temporary as the former Orlando Pirates manager could still be shown the exit door in short term future ahead of Zamalek’s difficult away Champions League clash against Dr. Congo giants TP Mazembe this Saturday.

Dia believes Micho would be sack if Zamalek lose a big score line against the Lubumbashi side. “Next match is away to TP Mazembe and if they lose with a high score, I think Micho will be sacked”, Dia added.

Micho have struggled since joining Zamalek three months after the Egyptians’ triumph in the 2018-2019 CAF Confederation Cup. However, the former Uganda coach has managed to win the 2018-2019 Egyptian Cup for Zamalek after running a 3-0 show against Pyramids in September this year.
