BREAKING- Ghana FA announces new national team names
The Ghana Football Association has announced new names for some national teams.
The new naming did not affect the Black Stars, Meteors, Satellite, Starlets, Queens, Maidens and Princesses. The Black Stars will remain the same ahead of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Among some new names is the CHAN (Local Black Stars) team, which is made up of players who played in the Ghana Premier League.
They will now be known as the Black Galaxies, as the Black Stars were created specifically for Ghana’s senior national team.
Ghana’s Beach Soccer National Team has also been dubbed the Black Sharks as they strive to build a competitive beach soccer team.
Two new teams have also been named.
The National U-15 boys’ team is known as the Black Comets, while the National U-15 girls’ team is known as the Black Damsels.
The four newly named teams are expected to compete for major honours in the future as the country seeks to dominate sporting activities on the African continent.
GFA have Tariq Lamptey breakthrough
England U21 defender Tariq Lamptey has had fruitful talks with the Ghana Football Association and he is set to play for the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 21-year-old has been in Ghana for holidays as well as for charity work.
However, he seized the opportunity to talk with handlers of the Ghana Football Association as he makes a decision over his international future.
It has been revealed that the player has been convinced by the FA’s propositions and will be available for Ghana’s next international assignments.
The Brighton and Hove Albion right-back asked to be excused from the England U21 squad during the international break as he sorts out personal issues.
He travelled to Ghana, where he took to opportunity to watch the Black Stars in the game against Madagascar at the Cape Coast stadium.
Lamptey’s decision to represent Ghana stems from the fact that he has not been given a look by the English senior team and competition for places could hamper his international future.
