Hearts of Oak coronavirus scary ahead of Caf Champions League after positive cases announced
The Ghana Premier League champions are facing scary of covid-19 ahead of their Caf Champions League participation after announcing the virus has hit their camp.
The Accra based side have stated that officials and players have been tested positive of the virus which could go all way to affect their participation in the African Champions League which starts early next month.
Though Hearts of Oak have stated that the new development will not affect their journey in Africa, but there could be the other way round if the trend continues without sharp precautionary measures.
“The management of Accra Hearts of Oak is hereby notifying the club’s fan base and the general public that having carried out mandatory testing of its players and officials for COVID-19, a few of the members tested positive for the virus,” a club statement read.
“Those affected are currently in isolation, though they are all asymptomatic and in good spirit. We want to assure our supporters that this development will not hamper our preparation for the CAF Champions League.”
“All the players and officials will be retested and even more stringent measures put in place to ensure no further spread of the virus.”
“We will once again take this opportunity to encourage everybody to observe the associated protocols at all times, as we continue to adjust to life with this deadly virus.”
At the beginning of the ended season, Hearts were hit with the virus leading the postponement of Ghana Premier League fixture. However, they managed the situation and eventually win the Ghanaian domestic title.
They went on to lift the FA Cup after beating Ash Gold in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium last month.
Their major assignment that awaits them is the Caf Champions League which requires testing of all members and players to meet Caf eligibility of participation.
The Ghanaian champions conducted covid-19 test last Thursday ahead of their first game against Guinean opponents CI Kamsar in Conakry.
The aftermath of the test put huge scary on Hearts with members and players contracting covid-19. While they could lose key players in their first game, the affected persons are isolation.
They are expected to recover to full fitness to play against Kamsar on 12th Sep, 2021.
