Ghana have finally know the teams that will represent her in this year’s Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup- that start in September.

Many of Africa’s clubs will test their might to see the test of fate when the 2022-2023 Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup begin in early September.

The likes of Raja Casablanca, Al Ahly, Zamalek, Esperance de Tunis, Wydad Casablanca will be coming from countries Egypt,  Morocco and Tunisia to compete.

Mamelodi Sundowns, TP Mazembe, Petro Luanda, Horoya Athletic and ASEC Mimosas enter from South Africa, Dr. Congo, Angola, Guinea and Ivory Coast respectively.

Ghana is a country that will be deemed unsatisfactory when it fails to present clubs for the Africa football. For a long time, many people have appeared interested in knowing which clubs will represent the country in both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Ghana’s 2021-2022 football calendar has officially ended after Sunday’s FA Cup final at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United to retain their FA Cup title having won the ultimate against Ash Gold last season.

Prior to start of the season, four clubs Hearts of Oak, Ash Gold, Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars were in the rank for the Ghana Premier League title but Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko were the clear favourites.

Hearts lifted the league title last season and Kotoko needed more efforts to overturn the Phobians to the title. Kotoko pulled the trigger to sign George Mfegue, Franck Thierry Mbella Etouga, Richard Lamptey, Richard Boadu, Samuel Boateng, Samuel Appiah, Augustine Agyapong, Sherif Mohammed, Isaac Oppong, Joseph Amoako and Clinton Opoku who were all sensational to the Red’s dominance in the league.

Mfegue scored 8 goals/9 assists while Mbella netted 21 goals to a second place in the goal-king race. Hearts of Oak also captured Enock Asoubonteng, Salim Adams, Dennis Korsah, James Sewornu, Gladson Awako, Sulley Muntari and Samuel Inkoom to bolster their league chances.

As Kotoko benefited from their signings, Hearts of Oak’s exit from African football drained their Ghana Premier League campaign placing them 6th position on the log which automatically ruled them out of the African Champions League.

But they had one competition, the MTN FA Cup to walk into Africa.

Hearts’ silence in the league in earl season handed Kotoko a major boost dominating the first round of the Ghana Premier League. The Porcupine Warriors kept the moment to win the ultimate.

The new glory in the Ghanaian top flight since 2013-2014 season send them into this season’s Caf Champions League. Despite winning the league, Asante Kotoko exited the FA Cup in the round of 64 following 1-0 loss to city rivals King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Winner of the FA Cup pick a slot for the Caf Confederation Cup and Hearts of Oak grabbed that opportunity after beating Bechem United in final in Kumasi.

With Kotoko winning the league and Hearts’ triumph in the FA Cup, Ghana for the first time in 7 years will have the two most top sides in the country representing her in Africa.

In 2015, Kotoko played the Caf Champions League and exited in the first round by El Eulma while Hearts of Oak were eliminated in Confederation Cup playoff by ES Tunis.

While entering into Africa this season, both clubs are tasked to achieve group stage football of their respective competition and if that is achieved, it marks since 2006 Kotoko and Hearts of Oak combined played group stage of Caf interclub football.

The Reds and Phobia both failed to qualify out of Caf Champions League group stage after two years of the Ghanaian giants playing in maiden final of the Caf Confederation Cup.

Ahead of this season’s campaign, much is expected of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, and it appears both clubs are preparing to combat in Africa.

For the league champions Kotoko, they are keen on making some big name reinforcements specifically targeted towards Caf Champions League. Meanwhile, a couple of their top performers are being chased by several clubs outside the country.

While the Porcupine Warriors are confident of signing former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Brazilian International Bruno Leite, Cameroonian forward Adolf Nkembe and other nationals, they could lose Andrews Appau, Mudasiru Salifu, Richard Boadu who are in Moldova for trials.

The likes of Fabio Gama, Mbella Etouga, George Mfegue, Imoro Ibrahim have also been linked with clubs in Europe.

Hearts already have a solid team with almost all the departments ready for the Caf Confederation Cup. Last season’s champions are said to enter into the transfer market for additions as Cameroonian attacker Junior Kaaba linked.

However, Hearts may need to sign another goal-keeper.
