Morlaye Sylla strike against Rwanda hands Guinea semifinal clash with Mali in African Nations Championship

Guinea have beaten Rwanda in the quarter-finals of African Nations Championship  to book a place in the last four of the competition where they will face Mali on Wednesday.

With the first quarter-final clash of Sunday going the way of Morocco, there was a last semifinals spot to be contested between Guinea and Rwanda in Limbe later in the day.

Guinea are the side that make cut to the semifinal phase of the CHAN in their history after Morlaye Sylla striking in the second half of the game.

The most dramatic moments of the clash saw both Guinea and Rwanda reduced to 10 men. It was Guinea’s Mory Kante that was first send off after a heavy challenge on a Rwandan forward on the 11th minute.

Despite a man down, Guinea looked the better side after controlling the game to end the first half without conceding a goal with their 10 men.

Having continued from where they left, a swift counter attack saw Rwanda goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera knocked down Guinea forward Kantabadouna behind the box. Kwizera was sent off after appearing the last man at the moment and the resultant free kick was nicely converted by Sylla to give Guinea the lead on the 60th minute.

Guinea will now meet Mali is the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
