More than 3.2 million arrivals in June and July 2022 in Morocco
Morocco welcomed during the months of June and July 2022 a total of 3.2 million tourists, including 65% in July with more than 2 million arrivals, indicates the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy – Department of Tourism.
This is an exceptional performance having made it possible to recover 100% of arrivals for the months of June and July 2019, the ministry said in a press release, adding that the 2022 summer season confirmed the recovery that has begun in the tourism sector, since the warning signs from the month of June.
The performances are clearly palpable and are reflected in green indicators, observes the department, emphasizing the efforts made to upgrade the tourist offer and the promotion of the Morocco destination which have made it possible to concretize the ambition of an accelerated return to known industry levels.
And to continue that this momentum of recovery affects all the other indicators, including the number of overnight stays which stood at a total of 3.8 million overnight stays for June and July 2022. In terms of foreign currency revenue of the sector, the latter generated 27.3 billion dirhams (MMDH) during the first half of 2022, i.e. an exceptional recovery rate of 81% of 2019, given the closure of borders during the first 5 weeks of 2022 .
The month of June alone represents approximately 25% of these receipts. And to emphasize that Moroccans living abroad (MRE) have greatly contributed to the revitalization of the summer period. Indeed, 1.4 million MREs joined the Kingdom during the month of July 2022, i.e. 100% of arrivals in July 2019, concludes the ministry.
