World Cup 2022: Andre Ayew misses penalty as Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 to send Black Stars home

The Black Stars of Ghana will arrive in Ghana this weekend after failing to advance to the Round 16 stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana national team locked horns with Uruguay today in the final Group H match of this year’s mundial.

In a game the Black Stars would be awarded a penalty kick in the 15th minute, captain Andre Ayew accepted the responsibilities from the 12 yards.

Unfortunately, for the most experienced player in the Ghana squad at the tournament, the pressure got to him as he failed to equalise.

With the game turning on its head, Uruguay dominated play for the remainder of the first half and deservedly had a comfortable 2-goal lead.

It was all thanks to a brace from Brazil-based forward Giorgian De Arrascaeta who scored in the 26th and 32nd minutes respectively.

Despite an improved performance from Ghana in the second half, the Black Stars could not score for a chance to come back from behind to secure the much-needed draw.

Having lost 2-0 today, Ghana are out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, Uruguay are also out of the tournament although the South Americans secured the win against Ghana.

South Korea’s 2-1 comeback win against Portugal meant that the Asians climbed to second above Uruguay to go through to the Round 16 stage.
