Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey reports in Black Stars camp ahead of Afcon

Black Stars has been boosted with the arrival of Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey who trained with the team on Tuesday in Doha.

Amartey touched down on Monday night and joined his teammates to continue preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The central defender looks eager to play a key role for the Black Stars who are desperate to end their Afcon trophy drought in Cameroon.

Amartey arrived alongside Arsenal star Thomas Partey, Jojo Wollacott, Jordan Ayew and Baba Iddrisu, as confirmed by the Black Stars Twitter page.

The 27-year-old is expected in action when Black Stars take on Algeria in a pre-Afcon friendly on Wednesday at Education City stadium in Doha.

This will be Amartey’s second Afcon. He debuted in 2015 but couldn’t make it to Gabon in 2017 and Egypt in 2019 due to injuries.

Amartey returned to the team last year, ending a four-year absence due to injury.

Black Stars will kick start their tournament against giants Morocco on Monday, January 10 before taking on Gabon and Comoros in the other Group C matches.
