Majeed Ashimeru ruled out of Anderlecht’s trip to Kortrijk

In-form Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru will miss Anderlecht’s game against Kortrijk on Sunday in the Belgium First Division due to injury.

The 24-year-old is however expected to recover in time for the Belgium Cup final against KAA Gent on April 18, 2022.

Ashimeru has been on a hot streak of form before picking up an ankle injury that kept him out of Ghana’s World Cup playoff against Nigeria last week.

The former Red Bull Salzburg player has been playing through pain but Anderlecht have decided to rest him as he recuperates ahead of the Belgium Cup final.

Ashimeru has been key to manager Vincent Kompany’s side, having scored three and provided two assists in 31 games this season.

He is expected to play a crucial role in the playoffs of the Belgium topflight league later this month.

Meanwhile, Ashimeru repeated his Ramadan giveaway this year by distributing groceries to the muslim community in Nima, a suburb of Accra.

Ashimeru grew up in the area before he got scouted by West African Football Academy at the age of 12.

The items shared for households included beverages, tin of milk, sugar and fruits.

This he believes can help-especially the less privilege-them observe the fast in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
