Leicester City defender to be Ghana deputy captain for 2022 World Cup play-offs

Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey will be the deputy captain of the Black Stars for this month’s African World Cup qualification play-offs for Qatar 2022 finals.

The versatile defender has been entrusted with the deputy captaincy role for his leadership qualities shown in previous matches.

Arsenal star Thomas Teye Partey will lead the side as captain when they take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a doubleheader.

Partey is stepping in for Andre Ayew who is suspended for the two matches following his red card against Comoros during the AFCON 2021 tourney in Cameroon.

Ghana will tackle Nigeria in the first leg on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The Super Eagles will host Black Stars in the return encounter at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja four days later.

Amartey has always given his best ever since making his debut in January 2015. He has 36 international caps for the Black Stars.

The 27-year-old has been a key part of Leicester this season in all competitions having made 25 appearances overall where he has scored once.
