Sporting CP new signing Fatawu Issahaku eyeing World Cup opener against Portugal

Ghana’s teen sensation, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is eager to play the World Cup opener between the Black Stars and European giants Portugal.

The 18-year-old signed for Portuguese outfit Sporting CP a week ago, and he is already relishing the game between his native Ghana and the country he plies his trade.

Issahaku reveals he has been talking about the game with the Portuguese national team players in the Sporting Lisbon squad.

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream,” he told CAFonline.

“The World Cup is a very big thing and everyone dreams of it. I can’t wait to be there,” added the teenager.

“It would be fantastic. I’ve already talked to them (team-mates about Ghana versus Portugal game at the World Cup) and it has everything to be a good game.”

The former Ghana U20 star played a role as Ghana edged Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Having been named Africa’s best U20 player at the U20 Nations Cup is Mauritania last year, Issahaku was immediately promoted to the Black Stars, making his debut against Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers.

He also represented Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations early this year in Cameroon.
