Joel Fameyeh joint top-scorer in Russian First Division League after strike for Rubin Kazan against PFC Kuban

Black Stars forward Joel Fameyeh is joint top-scorer in the Russian First Division League hitting the ground running in early stage of the season. It’s quite unusual of Ghanaian players playing abroad to have a sharp start to a season but Fameyeh has raised major concern over sit up right and take notice.

The former Asokwa Deportivo attacker struck on the 34′ minute to send his season’s tally to 4 goals in 5 games for Rubin Kazan.

The 26-year-old’s strike in Rubin Kazan’s 3-0 win against PFC Kuban sees him join Vasily Aleinikov at the summit of the scorers chart. He has now grabbed 4 goals same as FC SKA-Khabarovsk’s forward Vasily Aleinikov.

Fameyeh opened the scoring as Rubin Kazan thumped Kuban on Sunday in the fifth round of games in Russia.

Alexander Zotov increased the lead for Rubin Kazan in the 38th minute as the home side went into the break leading the tie.

After recess, Kazan were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute which was converted by Vitali Lisakovich.

The red-hot forward previously played in Belarus for Belshina and Dynamo Brest, and in Russia he played for Orenburg for three years.

Fameye’s agreement with the Kazan-based team was signed until 2025.

He has scored two goals in five appearances for the senior national team, Black Stars since his debut in 2015.

Famayeh is also hoping to help Rubin Kazan make a quick return to the Russian topflight.

“In each new season, I want to do score more than I did last year. I think that Rubin is a good team, generally top, and I want to do what I want and can do. Together, as a team, we can do a lot,” Fameye said after the game.
