Andre Ayew reveals conversation with Asamoah Gyan ahead of his move to Qatar

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has revealed that he spoke with Asamoah Gyan before deciding to continue his career in Asia by signing for Qatari side Al-Sadd.

After leaving Swansea City in the Championship at the end of last season, Ayew joined Al-Sadd on a free transfer and became an instant hit in Qatar.

With 15 goals and one assist in 25 games, Ayew played a key role in the club’s Qatar Stars League victory. Before that, he helped the club lift the Amir Cup.

Many people regard the Gulf region as a retirement destination, and players who relocate there are viewed as merely looking for a final pay day before hanging up their boots.

However, Ayew believes that playing in Qatar is not a step down, as Gyan’s role in his move to Qatar was revealed in an interview.

Gyan played for Al Ain and was a key figure in the Asian country during his time there.

“Asamoah Gyan was the one that told me that the league was not easy at all, we could all see that his time at Al Ain was when he scored most goals for the Black Stars,” he told Joy Sports.

“He went there and has made a massive impact on the whole of the Gulf.

Looking at all that, other players have done I got to know there was an opportunity there and I had to take it and now things are going well,” he added.
