Joseph Painstil gets minutes as KRC Genk score last gasp goal to draw at Standard Liege

Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil climbed off the bench to help KRC Genk earn a point against Standard Liege in the opening game of the Belgium Jupiler Pro League.

The winger replaced Junya Ito in the 71st minute with Genk down by a goal.

The former Tema Youth player started the move which resulted in the equalizer for Genk after taking on his marker on the left to find Cyriel Kolawole Dessers.

Dessers then sent in a cross which was connected by Theo Bongondoa.

Paintsil is returning from a successful loan spell in Turkey, where he netted 11 goals in 33 matches for Ankaragucku.

The ex-Ghana youth international is hoping to become a key member of the Genk team this season.

His opening day performance is expected to convince manager John Van De Brom, who looks set to give the winger more opportunities.

He was a member of the team that won the league in 2018.
