Hearts of Oak have been crowned champions of the 2022 President’s Cup following a deserved 2-1 win against rivals Asante Kotoko.

The Phobians today locked horns with the Porcupine Warriors at the Accra Sports Stadium to battle for honour and bragging right that comes with winning the President’s Cup.

In a game that Asante Kotoko started very strongly, the team could not maintain the momentum with Hearts of Oak gradually growing and calming the high tempo of the clash.

On the back of a goalless first half, the Phobians took the lead four minutes into the second half when Daniel Afriyie Barnieh equalized with a left-footed shot.

In the exciting contest that ensued from there on, Asante Kotoko put up a very good fight and succeeded in restoring parity through substitute Samuel Boateng in the 75th minute.

With both teams throwing men forward in the final ten minutes of the encounter, Hearts of Oak caught the opponent on a counter-attack late in the game and made it count.

Substitute Patrick Razak beat the offside trap and rounded off goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim before firing in a precise effort to win the game for Hearts of Oak at the end of the 90 minutes.

This becomes the third trophy coach Samuel Boadu has won for Hearts of Oak since his appointment by the club in 2021.
