The Ghana international was at his best at the weekend for Vincent Kompany’s side when they beat Genk 2-0 at home.

Ashimeru backed by former Anderlecht player

Former Anderlecht star Walter Bassegio thrown his weight of support behind Ghanaian International Majeed Ashimeru.

The talented midfielder has been in splendid form this season. He sustained injury and returned to action in July 2021. Since his return, the Ghanaian midfielder has never looked back.

Ashimeru played his first game since July 2021 against KAS Eupen in the Belgian League and followed it up with another brilliant display in a 2-1 win over Waregem.

Bassegio believed the Ghanaian star should be played more and is exactly the type of creative player the Anderlecht needs to dominate games.

The former Belgium international made the case for the inclusion of Majeed Ashimeru in the starting lineup ahead of Kristoffer Olsson who he argued is too defensive minded.

“Olsson is a player who defends more and Anderlecht have had enough of that,” he told La Dernière Heure.

“There is a lack of a real number ten at Anderlecht, which means there is too much space between the lines.”

Ashimeru’s preference over Olsson has been key for Anderlecht so far winning 14 games at the current standing of the Pro League. They have remained undefeated in their last three league games with Ashimeru shinning in all those victories.

Ashimeru once promised to do more for Belgian side

The Black Stars midfielder was one of the top performers in the game against KAS Eupen, with his displays in midfield appealing to the sight of the supporters of Anderlecht.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Majeed Ashimeru disclosed that even though he displayed top form, this was still not his best game.

According to him, there is more installed and fans should watch out for more.

“I still prefer my game at Antwerp last season because I scored a goal. But it’s clear that I’m happy with my game. I even had cramps at the end of the game,” said the Ghana midfielder in early February in game against KAS Eupen.

After such top performance, Majeed Ashimeru looked set to play regularly at RSC Anderlecht as the club pushes for a strong finish to the season.

His promise has yielded positive results after appearing in Team-Of-The-Week for last weekend and is battling for Team-Of-The Season spot.

Anderlecht now sit 4th place on the Belgian Pro League table with 51 points, 12 more below leaders Union Saint-Gilloise.
