Wadi Degla begin Caf Women’s Champions League with 3-1 victory over Malian side AS Mande

Wadi Degla achieved an important 3-1 victory over Mali’s AS Mande in the opening game of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.

The CAF Women’s Champions League is played in two groups of four teams, with the top two teams reaching the semi-finals, which will be played in a one-leg format

As hosts, Egyptian champions Wadi Degla have qualified directly for the competition, where they were drawn in group A alongside Mali’s AS Mande, Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea, and Ghana champions Hasaacas Ladies.

The tournament’s opening game took place between Wadi Degla and AS Mande, and Wadi Degla successfully collected their first three points.

Noha Mamdouh opened scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot, to become the first player ever to net a goal in the newly-formed tournament.

Fatumata Dukureh then doubled the lead for Degla. However, Awa Traore narrowed the gap before the half-time break to keep the Malian team’s chances alive.

After the second-half whistle, the Egyptians secured their victory through Jasmin Theresa who added the third goal for her team for the game to end with the result of 3-1.
