Hakim Ziyech set to face Manchester City on Sunday as Moroccan trains in Chelsea last training session

Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech could be ready in the billing to face Manchester City in crunchy Premier League fixture in Sunday evening, after apparently training in Chelsea’s last sessions at Cobham.

Ziyech was at the heart of Chelsea’s success as Lampard’s men went on a 14-match unbeaten streak earlier this season but the club have struggled in the Moroccan’s absence, winning just one of their last six games in all competitions.

The 27-year old sustained in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leeds United and has missed the last 6 games. Meanwhile, Lampard has been providing positive updates on Ziyech’s thigh injury on amid the Moroccan International’s return to the pitch and said he was hopeful the 27-year-old could return on Sunday afternoon, should the Blues’ clash with Manchester City take place.

‘I don’t think it’s a coincidence,’ Lampard said at his post-match press conference. ‘You can’t rely completely on it.

“But with Hakim, the way he was playing, he was very effective in terms of assists, chance creation, and we were very fluid at the time when he got injured against Leeds. ‘Where is he at? There’s a possibility he could be fit for Man City if it goes ahead.’

Now, with the game against Manchester City set to go ahead on Sunday, Chelsea returned to the training ground at Cobham yesterday for one final time in 2020, to begin preparations for this all-important showdown of potentially massive implications.

With no team managing to truly excel so far this season, it’s practically a ten-way fight for the top positions, and almost every clash is a six-pointer.

One massive boost to Chelsea could be the return to fitness of Hakim Ziyech. Frank Lampard’s side have won just one game from six since the Moroccan’s injury, scoring just seven goals in the process (three of which came in the one win).

The Chelsea manager has been hinting at a potential return for the former Ajax star this weekend, which is why it’s nice to see the 27-year-old pop up in training photos from Thursday.

While none of the official pictures show Ziyech’s face, we can see his back in one of them, while Ziyech himself posted a couple snaps on his Instagram story as well, including a repost from Emerson, and this one from someone in his entourage.
