Brendan Rodgers set to be without key Leicester City star for Premier League clash vs Chelsea

Brendan Rodgers will be without Youri Tielemans for Leicester’s clash against the Blues in the Premier League in just over 10 days

Leicester star Youri Tielemans is set for at least a month out of action after suffering ankle ligament damage, meaning he will miss the Foxes clash against Chelsea. The two teams will come to blows on March 11 in the Premier League and the Belgian midfielder will be a guaranteed absentee, with his injury meaning he could miss as much as six weeks.

Tielemans was tipped for a big move at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract in the summer. Arsenal were the club heavily linked with Tielemans after he revealed that he was not keen on signing an extension at King Power Stadium.

The 25-year-old has seen his game time diminish in recent weeks playing just under an hour in Leicester’s last three games. After coming on as a sub against Arsenal over the weekend, Tielemans picked up the injury after landing awkwardly in a challenge with Granit Xhaka.

Rodgers said on Monday: “We’re just waiting on the scan results for Youri, that will come through today. It doesn’t look good. He did incredibly well to come back onto the pitch.

“He showed real bravery to try to help the team. When you see it, it looks a nasty one. We just have to see what the results are. He’s been brilliant in my time here. In fairness to Youri, he’s always been available. He’s a top-class player, so to not have his availability for a number of games is not ideal. It provides an opportunity for other players.”

Speaking after Tuesday’s FA Cup exit to Championship side Blackburn Rovers, Rodgers said: “Youri will be out for six weeks.

“It will feel like six months when you lose a player of his quality. Sadly he’s done the ligaments in his ankle and so certainly he won’t be back before the international break.”

Tielemans could therefore be out until early April with this ankle injury, meaning he will also likely miss games against Southampton, Brentford and Crystal Palace, as well as the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
