Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger backs Liverpool to be crowned Premier League champions

Antonio Rudiger has backed Liverpool to be crowned champions of this season’s Premier League if the halted season is cancelled.

Liverpool were on the way lifting the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years but the coronavirus pandemic has put a halt to the season without certain return date.

There has been effort to restore the EPL where games could be played behind closed-doors but the season can also face a complete cancellation as it has happened in France yesterday.

Rudiger insists if the league is cancelled Liverpool should be crowned champions of the Premier League this season.

“Honestly, as far as I’m concerned they can give Liverpool the title,“ the Chelsea defender told ZDF.

“At the end of the day they deserve it, they’ve had a great season and are leading the table with, oh I don’t know how many points.

“The thing is they were going to win the thing anyway, so I think the title is theirs ethically.

“Of course, I hope that the season can be finished and it will be sporting for everyone.

“As I’ve said before if we continue to play and there is a danger, and we ignore that while people are dying somewhere in the world, I don’t know if that would sit right on my conscience.”

Klopp’s side have been outstanding this season leading the Premier League table with 82 points, leapfrogging Pep Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in second place with 25 clear points.

Liverpool have drew a game against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first round, with a splendid performance on the defeat dimension, making sure they have just lost a single game against Watford in Vicarage Road to end the Reds long unbeaten run.
