Romelu Lukaku cancels break to return to Inter Milan after Belgium disaster

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has cancelled his holiday after enduring a nightmare second half against Croatia as Belgium crashed out of the World Cup on Thursday.

The Chelsea-owned striker was brought on at half time in the must-win match for Roberto Martinez’s side, but missed three huge chances after the break, with the goalless draw ensuring Belgium missed out on a place in the last-16.

The 29-year-old was distraught at full time, and need to be consoled by assistant coach Thierry Henry.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says Lukaku is ‘heartbroken’ following the national team’s World Cup exit and has decided not to go on his planned vacation.

Lukaku will instead return to Inter Milan, and could be back in training in just three days as he looks to get back into top condition.
