Glen Johnson tells Chelsea to cash-in on wantaway star N’Golo Kante

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes the club should sell N’Golo Kante while they can.

Kante’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and recent reports suggest that the defensive midfielder is prepared to leave Chelsea on a free transfer.

Both player and club are more than willing to agree a new deal but have hit a sticking point in the negotiations surrounding the length of his contract extension.

Chelsea have offered the 31-year-old a two-year deal on account of his persistent injury problems that have plagued the French World Cup winner over the last three seasons.

However, Kante has turned down that proposal as he wants a four-year contract, similar to that of summer signing Kalidou Koulibaly.

Amid all of this, PSG have renewed their interest in the player and are able to sign Kante on a pre-contract agreement on January 1st if he does not agree new terms with Chelsea.

As a result, Johnson thinks the time may have come for the Blues and Kante to part ways after over six highly successful years together.

‘Chelsea should possibly cash in on N’Golo Kante,’ Johnson told BoyleSports.

‘He’s been linked with many clubs that might want him. They’re struggling to agree on a deal with him too.

‘If Kante wants to stay and play then I’m sure Chelsea will want him to. But there’s always a business decision when a player might want too much, or the club is giving them too little – then they should shake hands and part ways.’

With a new manager at Stamford Bridge, many expect there to be a small clearing out of players as Graham Potter re-shapes the squad to his liking, with Kante on the list of potential departures.
