Nike will no longer sponsor Mason Greenwood going forward after Girlfriend abuse

Mason Greenwood will not be sponsored by Nike going forward after his arrest and subsequent release on bail.

Manchester United striker Greenwood, 20, was arrested at the end of last month by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman. He was released on bail on Wednesday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement on Wednesday: “A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.”

Nike have now told The Athletic that they will no longer be sponsoring Greenwood.

A Nike spokesperson said: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete”.

He has previously been removed from video games FIFA, eFootball and PES.

Greenwood will not, as it stands, be selected by United or involved in training, although he has not been formally suspended.

Greenwood has not responded to the allegations.
