Chelsea complete loan signing of Joao Felix from Athletico Madrid

While still hoping to land Enzo Fernandes from Benfica, Chelsea seal move for one of the world’s talented forwards after announcing the deal on the official website.

Chelsea have completed the loan signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

“Portuguese attacker Joao Felix will be part of the Chelsea squad for the remainder of the season, having moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea announced at website.

The Blues have bolstered their forward line by bringing in the Portuguese international on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

Graham Potter’s side have agreed to pay a £10million loan fee to take Felix until the end of the season.

They will also cover the entirety of Felix’s wages for the rest of the campaign.

The deal will not include an option for Chelsea to make the move permanent, with Atletico having extended his contract by a year to 2027.

Felix, 23, also attracted interest from Manchester United and Arsenal this month – but opted to snub both for the Blues.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has reacted to the latest signing after feeling happy with the incoming of the Portuguese International.

‘He is a quality player, and he will make a difference in the final third of the pitch. He is young, but has really good experience. The signing gives everybody a lift,’ Potter said.

‘He is a good age and he can play as a second striker between the lines and making a difference in the final third. We are looking forward to working with him.’

Injuries in wide areas to Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling last week have caused debate as to whether our new recruit was signed off the back of those injuries, though our head coach said that is not exactly the case.

‘We have been aware of it for a while, these things do not happen quickly. Maybe the injuries have sharpened the focus a little bit. It is nice to get him here, get him training today and it is positive for us.’

Potter added that the club are awaiting the green light as to whether the attacker was signed in time to feature in west London on Thursday.

‘We will see for the game. We are waiting for the confirmation on that, if he can play.

‘He has been training regularly and has had game time, so from a physical perspective he can go straight in,’ Potter added.

‘There is always an unknown going from country to country, and there’s always an adaptation period but in terms of how long that takes can go from player to player.

‘I see a confident person and player that can can impose himself on the game. His personality traits are that he can take the ball in tight spaces and make passes. He compliments what we have, he is a nice addition as clearly he is a talented player who can help the team.’
