Barcelona 3-3 Inter Milan: Robert Lewandowski late double extend Xavi side Champions League exit

Inter Milan forced FC Barcelona to a 3-3 draw at Spotify Camp Nou in the Champions League as the Italian side nearly completed back-to-back victory over Xavi’s men. A defeat to Barcelona would have seen them exit the Champions League group stage but the draw today has postponed the elimination into their next game against Bayern Munich at home later October.

Inter Milan stunned Barcelona 1-0 in matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League last week. Thanks to Hakan Calhanoglu who scored the only goal of the game at San Siro past Tuesday to boost Inter’s chances in the competition.

But three goals in the final 10′ minutes, with 2 for Barcelona and a 1 for Inter, saw the game at Camp Nou ended 3-3 with Lewandowski salvaging Barcelona twice to denied Inter victory.

Barcelona broke the deadlock after long first half period 40′ minutes on the clock through Ousmane Dembélé as the home side ended the half with a 1-0 lead.

Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella pulled the leveler 10′ minutes into the second half and Simone Inzaghi went ahead following Lautaro Martínez strike that hit the posts 13′ minutes later.

Barcelona piled the pressure for the equalizer as Robert Lewandowski fired a carpet shot to back of the net. Inter Milan had failed to clear the lines from Lewandowski’s initial header.

Inter went ahead for a second time in the game after a swift counter-attack saw Robin Gosens struck home at the far posts. In moments of drama in later part of the game, Robert Lewandowski rise above Inter’s defense to head home Eric García’s cross.

Inter could have won the game after two late attacks saw Marc-André ter Stegen denied Lautaro Martínez and Robin Gosens efforts. With Bayern beating Viktoria Plzeň 4-2 away, the Bundesliga side have qualified to round 16 with a 100 percent record so far while Inter Milan, who sit second place in Group C with 7 points 5 more below Bayern, battle Barcelona, who have 4 points after 4 games, for the second spot into last 16 of the Champions League.
