Reece James convinced Chelsea signings can make Blues one of the best teams

Reece James believes Chelsea’s raft of new signings will lead to the club having one of the best teams in the world, although the full back admits the squad needs time to gel.

The Blues squad was bolstered by a £323million influx of talent last month, including the £107million British record signing of Enzo Fernandez.

Benoit Badiashile and Mykhailo Mudryk were also among the club’s big money arrivals in January, while Joao Felix joined on loan until the end of the season.

The outlay saw owner Todd Boehly’s overall spending on transfers reach £600million since he took over the club in May last year.

James told the Football Daily he expects the investment will pay off long-term, insisting the club will soon be in contention for every trophy on offer.

‘I don’t think there’s a trophy we [Chelsea] can’t win,’ James said.

‘When that happens I don’t know.

‘I think with the team we’re building, with the structure the club is turning into, with all the young players.

‘Once we’ve played together for a longer period of time and everyone gains more experience, I think we’re going to be one of the best teams in the world.’

Fernandez and Felix combined for Chelsea’s opener against West Ham on Saturday.

Graham Potter’s side were pegged back by the club’s former player Emerson Palmieri in a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

The result leaves Chelsea lying 10th in the Premier League with the Blues 10 points adrift of fourth placed Newcastle.

Chelsea increasingly face an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The club are currently on a run of just two wins in 13 games which has increased the pressure on Potter.

Potter is expected to be backed long-term by the club’s owners, given the challenging task of gelling together a team with several new faces.

Chelsea’s new look side will hope to make an impact on the knock-out stage of this season’s Champions League, beginning with a trip to face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
