Manchester United great Roy Keane predicts where England will finish in World Cup group

England are gearing up for their first game of the World Cup against Iran in Group B and former Man United midfielder Roy Keane has given his verdict on their chances.

Roy Keane believes England will have too much ‘firepower’ for their fellow Group B counterparts at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Three Lions will face Iran, USA and Wales in the Middle East, bidding to progress to the knockout stages.

Gareth Southgate confirmed his 26-man squad for the World Cup last week with Manchester United trio Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford included. Looking to go one better than the EURO 2020 final defeat against Italy last summer, much has been made of England’s poor form going into the tournament.

But with all the talking now done as the Three Lions prepare for their first match against Iran on Monday afternoon, former United midfielder Keane believes Southgate’s men possess enough quality to get the job done comfortably in the group stages.

“England are topping their group, 100%. They have a derby against Wales, but England will just have too much firepower. If Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale turn up, which they have before in major tournaments, they’ll have a great chance of getting through,” Keane said.

Fellow Sky pundit Micah Richards backed the USMNT to progress alongside England, with their plethora of attacking talent key to his decision. “Wales have got plenty of team spirit, but the USA just have more quality in their squad – I back them to finish second,” added Richards.
