France in trouble at Qatar: Nkunku officially misses World Cup with injury

France loses one of its attacking references. Christopher Nkunku, R.B. Leipzig striker, has seen his World Cup come to an end before it has even begun. In an action with Camavinga in training on Tuesday, the striker went to the ground with a sore left knee. After undergoing medical tests, the French national team has issued a statement explaining that Nkunku will not be able to take part in the World Cup and is leaving the training camp.

How did Nkunku get injured?

“Christopher Nkunku will not take part in the World Cup. The RB Leipzig striker left Tuesday’s training session before the end with an injury to his left knee. Unfortunately, radiological examinations carried out in the evening revealed that it was a sprain.”

The French Football Federation says that a medical file has been sent to FIFA so that the injured player can be replaced. The name of Christopher Nkunku’s replacement will be announced once FIFA has validated the medical file. According to RMC Sport, the replacement could be Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Nkunku’s absence joins those of Kimpembe, Pogba and Kanté, three other key players in the French national team who will not be able to defend the title in Qatar.
