Raphinha expresses his anger after being substituted against Manchester United

Barcelona’s Raphinha was livid after being substituted in his team’s draw against Manchester United.

After Raphinha set up Marcos Alonso’s opener, United took control in the first leg of the Europa League clash, with Marcus Rashford scoring prior to an own goal from Jules Kounde.

Raphinha scored in the 76th minute to make it 2-2 as Barcelona equalised.

However, just seven minutes later Barcelona coach Xavi elected to take Raphinha off, with Ferran Torres entering the fray.

Raphinha was apoplectic at the decision, and proceeded to punch a seat in the dugout three times as he vented his frustration.

Jordi Alba, who had earlier been substituted himself, attempted to calm the Brazilian down.

Speaking after the game, Xavi stated that he wasn’t concerned about Raphinha’s reaction, stressing that it is normal for a player to be frustrated when they are substituted.

Xavi added that he was angry when he was taken off as a player.

Speaking on BT Sport, Xavi said: ‘That is normal, this is football. I say to the players they have to be angry. This is in a positive way. When I was a player I was angry when the coaches changed me.

‘That’s normal, it’s football. The problem is if they don’t have attitude on the pitch, and the attitude of Raphina is always 100 per cent amazing.’

In his first season at Barcelona, Raphinha has made 31 appearances so far, while he has scored seven goals and provided nine assists.

Raphinha will hope to make a major impact in the second leg, with the tie intriguingly poised going into the clash at Old Trafford.
