Hugo Lloris: Messi a great player but we want to write our own history
For goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Messi may deserve to win the World Cup, but as Dembele said on Friday, France deserve it too. He is in no doubt of the goal his side has being the reigning champions.
“Messi’s a great player, we all know what he represents for this sport. But this is Argentina against France, there are more players. And we too want to make our own history”, the Tottenham keeper said.
Lloris claimed that Argentina is “a very well organised side, physically strong, agressive to the player who has the ball, and play very well going forward”. “Throughout their history, they have always had big names, like Maradona and now Messi, which is why they always have so much expectation. But when you’re French, it’s also important to play the World Cup final”, he said.
For the keeper, the win in 2018 should be inspiration, but nothing more, because “they are two different moments and situations”. “I have the privilege and pride of having won in 2019, but now I’m focused on the present, what happened before doesn’t exist. We want end this adventure in the best way possible”, he said.
Lloris also spoke about the virus which has made some of his teamates ill, and claimed that “despite that, we must up the level to get over the line and get the job done in the best possible way”.
“The way we’ve gone about the tournament so far has worked well, there’s no reason to believe it won’t happen in the final either. I think the adrenaline there is in a final is enough for us to improve our level and get the trophy”, he ended by saying.
