Spain Women beat England 1-0 in Australia to win first Women World Cup title

Spain women have won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, to become champions first time, after beating England in final on Sunday morning.

Jorge Vilda’s side sank Sweden in the semifinals after Olga Carmona’s winner ensured Spain reach the first ever final in the Women’s World Cup. Carmona appears the hero to also ensure Spain lay hands on the FIFA Women’s World Cup scoring the only goal in the final against England in 2023.

Spain success at the international football stage continue producing milestone achievements in world football in the last two decades. The men, La Roja, beat Netherlands 1-0 in the 2010 men’s final to win their first ever FIFA World Cup.

Andres Iniesta’s lone goal was enough to complete that breakthrough record and have broken the drought at women’s level beating another tournament likelihood England to win their first Women’s World Cup.

Spain played as hosts to England at Stadium Australia with Sarina Wiegman’s side also searching for their 1st title in sixth Women’s World Cup appearance.

Spain placed second to Japan in Group C. And had been brilliant throughout the tournament showing some decent piece of football against Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden on the road to the final against England.

They dominated England with Olga Carmona striking in the first half (29′) to hand Spain the deserved Women’s World Cup title.

Millie Bright has told the media: “It’s really hard to take. We gave everything, in the first half we weren’t at our best but in the second half we were back. There was a lot of belief, we have been 1-0 down, we never give in. We are absolutely heartbroken but unfortunately we weren’t there today. The girls are unbelievable.”

The Golden Ball, the Player of the Tournament, has been awarded to Bonmati. She has been unbelievable – huge.

The Golden Glove has been awarded to England’s Earps. Hugely impressive tournament and had another amazing performance today.
