Messi sets five Guinness World Records during FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi has bagged back-to-back trophies and smashed records during the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Apart from taking over the World Record Egg as Instagram’s most liked post with over 68 million likes and counting, Messi had also set five Guinness World Record titles during the tournament.

The Guinness World Records announced that Messi now holds the title for the following:

Most Man of the Match awards won at the FIFA World Cup: 11

First person to assist at five different FIFA World Cups

Most FIFA World Cup matches played in by a player: 26

Most FIFA World Cup appearances as captain: 19

Most appearances in FIFA World Cup tournaments by a player (male): 5

The Argentine captain and his teammates had returned in Buenos Aires and were met with thousands of supporters cheering on La Albiceleste’s thrilling victory during the Final match against France on December 18, coinciding with Qatar National Day.
