Premier League make big Anthony Taylor and Mike Dean call for upcoming Chelsea fixtures
The pair were not involved in Chelsea’s most recent fixture against Leeds United after the Tottenham controversy and the Premier League have made another big call.
The Premier League have made another big call in relation to Anthony Taylor and Mike Dean for Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures against Leicester City and Southampton in gameweek 4 and 5 respectively.
Taylor and Dean are still two names that cause much anger and frustration in the Blues fanbase following incidents in the Tottenham draw. Following the match, Thomas Tuchel was charged by the FA under rule E3 for his comments made post-match about the refereeing pair.
The statement from the FA read: “Thomas Tuchel has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made after Chelsea FC’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022. It is alleged that the manager’s comments in his post-match press conference constitute improper conduct as contrary to FA Rule E3.1 they imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match referee, and/or bring the game into disrepute.
“Thomas Tuchel has until Thursday, 25 August 2022, to provide a response to this charge.” This decision was taken after these comments were made in the Stamford Bridge press conference room after the London derby had come to a dramatic conclusion on and off the pitch.
“Not only the fans [who have an issue with Taylor]. You know the players, they know what’s going on when they are on the pitch. They know it.
“Maybe it would be better [if Taylor didn’t referee Chelsea games again]. But honestly, we also have VAR to help make the right decision. Since when can players be pulled by hair? Since when is that [not a foul]? If he does not see it, I do not blame him. I didn’t see it.
“But we have people at VAR who check this. Then you see it, and how can this not be a free kick and a red card? This doesn’t even had to do with the referee in this case. If he does not see something, that’s why we have people to check if there is a decisive error going on.”
In the aftermath of this whole incident, Taylor was given the West Ham vs Brighton to referee whilst Dean was given the week off entirely. Both will undoubtedly officiate further Chelsea fixtures this term but this will not happen in gameweeks 4 and 5.
This is because Dean and Taylor have both been assigned different games whilst a different set of officials have been given the task of overseeing the Blues’ next two against Leicester at home and Southampton away.
For the Foxes fixture, Paul Tierney has been given the whistle whilst Andre Marriner will be in charge of controlling the VAR room from Stockley Park.
Fast forward a few days and for the clash on the South Coast at St Mary’s Stadium, Michael Oliver has been handed the whistle whilst Michael Salisbury has been the person appointed for the VAR.
