EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United season ticket holders rush to renew after Dutch coach Erik ten Hag starts work at Old Trafford

Manchester United season ticket holders rush to renew as Dutch coach starts work at Old Trafford, with apologetic office staff forced to ring around new hospitality customers to say their posh seats are no longer available.

Manchester United have been left stunned by the Erik ten Hag effect – with non-renewals of season tickets at their lowest levels for years.

Insiders say that fans have rushed to renew on the back of the appointment of the Dutchman, leaving many on waiting lists disappointed.

Indeed, Old Trafford ticket office staff had to spend all day on Tuesday calling those who had shelled out thousands for posh seats and hospitality only to tell them that the packages they had paid deposits for were no longer available.

Prospective new punters were told that the club had oversubscribed, having overestimated the number of existing customers they thought would not renew their deals following a thoroughly depressing season which saw the underperforming powerhouse finish sixth, with a goal difference of zero.

That's despite a dreadful season for United on the pitch as they finished sixth in the league

It is thought that Ten Hag’s arrival has prompted a rethink across the board, including among many who were expected to ditch their prawn sandwich passes.

As a result an unspecified number of new customers were told they would have to relocate, having already paid thousands to watch the club next year.

Those affected were advised that they could either downgrade to seats with no free bar, or pay an extra £2,500 (per person) to upgrade to a more exclusive package.
