Rafael Leao wants Chelsea repeat after AC Milan complete Christian Pulisic transfer

AC Milan forward Rafael leao has discussed what former Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic can bring to the Italian club as Milan look to win more trophies under Stefano Pioli.

AC Milan are expecting Christian Pulisic to put his Chelsea frustration behind him and bring trophies back to the San Siro.

The USMNT superstar completed his £19 million ($24m) move to Italy after a disappointing final season at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old was limited to just nine starts for the Blues across all competitions but will be hoping to get back to his sparkling best after his marquee move to Milan.

After laying on an assist in a behind-closed-doors friendly, Pulisic’s first appearance for his new club came in a defeat to Real Madrid at the Rose Bowl in California. The timing could not have been better for Milan from a commercial point of view, but CEO Giorgio Furlani insists that the quality Pulisic adds to Stefano Pioli’s team is “priority number one, two and three”

Milan won the Scudetto in 2022 but finished 4th last season, while reaching the Champions League semi-finals. Pulisic was part of the Chelsea side that won the top trophy in European football in 2021 and the club will hope that the winger can repeat the feat at Milan, who last won the Champions League in 2007.

That is certainly how Milan talisman Rafael Leao views Pulisic’s arrival. The Portuguese forward stacked up 31 goal involvements last season but is relishing the competition for his place, with the USA international starting ahead of him against Real Madrid, and has been impressed by Pulisic in training.

“I really like him,” Leao, a Chelsea transfer target, told ESPN. “I like players that are not afraid to get the ball and go one against one, one against two, one against three. He’s fast. He can shoot with the left foot, with the right foot. I’m really enjoying it [watching Pulisic].”

“I feel good because [Pulisic’s arrival] pushes me as well to do more,” he continued. “Imagine, maybe the coach [Stefano Pioli] can put Pulisic in my position, but in my head, you need quality to add to the team to make a difference, like me.

“It’s important to have serious, high-quality players as that will help us to get trophies.”
